EDM is celebrating being named as a winning company in the North of England Excellence Awards (NoEE). EDM attended the award ceremony last evening and were announced as winners of the “Best International Trade” award.

The NoEE recognises organisations that achieve and maintain superior levels of performance. The Excellence in International Trade award is supported by UKTI and recognises how organisations have increased value and enhanced performance by accessing new markets and increasing export volumes.

Attending the event on behalf of EDM was Tony Bermingham, Managing Director; Mick Bonney, Director of Sales and Business Development and Geoff Moss, Finance Director. EDM were presented with their award by UKTI’s International Trade Advisor, Charles Jacobson, and Richard Else, Operations Director at Jaguar Land Rover, Halewood.

Tony Bermingham said:

“We are delighted to receive this award in recognition of EDM’s performance as ‘best in class’ for our successful export trade. Eighty percent of EDM’s turnover comes from export markets and in this last year we have grown our commercial aviation business in Indonesia, the Philippines, Japan, USA and Russia and have continued to build upon our existing business in China. In the military sector, EDM has significant projects in the USA and Canada and most notably, we are supplying the simulated training equipment to the Joint Strike Fighter programme which is the world’s largest defence project.”

Speaking about the business benefits of exporting, Mick Bonney added:

“Our exposure to overseas customers and their demanding requirements has led to significant product development and innovation. For example working on the development programme for the most advanced fighter aircraft in the world has driven the sophistication and development of our training solutions in both commercial aviation and defence sectors.”

The North of England Excellence Awards are in their 19th year and are the North’s most prestigious business awards presented at an Awards Ceremony attended by over 400 business leaders. Last night’s award ceremony was held at The Point, Lancashire County Cricket Club.

David Teal, Chief Executive of North of England Excellence, said:

“The 2013 awards have once again revealed some outstanding examples of best practice in business. These are organizations which are pursuing world-class levels of performance. No doubt they will use the feedback from assessors which they have gained from taking part in the awards to raise their game even higher.”
