Railway Signallers Training Simulator – operational at the new Rail Operations Training Academy in Belfast
A touchscreen version of EDM’s NX panel simulator has been installed and is now operational in the newly opened Rail Operations Training Academy (ROTA), Belfast.

The “NX Panel-Touch” is the latest development of the NX panels that EDM have supplied to Network Rail. This unique simulator is capable of quickly producing geo-specific track layout and inputting real timetables. It is the first unit of this type, in use, anywhere in Europe.
The device is used to train rail signallers on realistic equipment and in life-like situations. The instructor is able to set faults and through a record and play-back system can review and debrief trainees on the tasks they undertake.

The NX Panel-Touch was designed and constructed in-house, thereby reducing technical and programme risk.

“The simulator is capable of taking real data from the rail company and converting it into the training environment. By working closely with Northern Ireland Railways we were able to produce a realistic and user-friendly training device”, said project manager Terry Healy.

ROTA was officially opened in Belfast on Thursday 19th February by Regional Development Minister Conor Murphy MP MLA.
