American Airlines appoints EDM for B787 Door Trainer project

18 September 2013

EDM is pleased to announce that it has been appointed to design, manufacture and install a simulated B787 Door Trainer for American Airlines. EDM was selected by American following an international tender lasting several months.

American is to receive delivery of its training device in March 2014 and it will incorporate all of the usual features which have come to be associated with EDM’s high quality Door Trainers and includes additional features such as a row of economy seats; flight attendant seat; emergency oxygen mask deployment; passenger service unit; workable overhead bins; simulated flight-deck door and a lavatory interior mock-up.

Tony Bermingham, EDM’s Managing Director said:

“EDM is delighted to welcome American Airlines as a new customer. American is renowned for its pioneering spirit and its drive to invest in the latest technology; these are core values that are also embedded in EDM’s culture. Our training device will provide American’s cabin crew with the best training equipment to perfect their safety skills.”

EDM is at the forefront of designing and manufacturing Door Trainers for all aircraft types; the company’s pedigree in this area was further recognised when EDM became the first company worldwide to work exclusively with Boeing aircraft door data to develop simulated door trainers for the B787 Dreamliner’s launch customer, All Nippon Airways and then Continental Airlines, plus China Southern Airlines.

Tony Bermingham adds:

“EDM is the lead supplier for B787 cabin training equipment and we are pleased to have secured the company’s fourth B787 customer with American Airlines. We intend to continue this leadership and be the supplier of choice for airlines all over the world for their cabin crew training requirements.”
